interactive magnified map

I am trying to find a tutorial for a magnified map, somewhat like the magnifying glass tutorials that are everywhere, but instead of having the magnified region covering the small map with the cursor, the magnified region shows up in a separate box to the side.... Like having the cursor be a small box and whatever is in the small box shows up magnified in the larger box. Hope this makes some sense.
